The Overall Aims of the English Language Education Curriculum are
  • to provide every learner of a second language with further opportunities for extending their knowledge and experience of the cultures of other people as well as opportunities for personal and intellectual development, further studies, pleasure and work in the English medium; and
  • to enable every learner to prepare for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology; these demands include the interpretation, use and production of materials for pleasure, study and work in the English medium.
The Subject Target of English Language is for learners to develop an ever-improving capability to use English
  • to think and communicate;
  • to acquire, develop and apply knowledge;
  • to respond and give expression to experience; and within these contexts, to develop and apply an ever-increasing understanding of how language is organized, used and learned.
Strand Targets

The Subject Target is supported by three interrelated Strands:

  • Interpersonal Strand
  • Knowledge Strand
  • Experience Strand

Strands define the general purposes of learning English and serve as content organizers of the curriculum. They refer to the categories for organizing the curriculum content for the purpose of developing knowledge, skills, values and attitudes as a holistic process. Learning Objectives The Learning Objectives are the essential focuses of learning. They form the content of learning for the subject, embodying:

  • language forms and communicative functions;
  • language skills and language development strategies;
  • attitudes specific to English Language learning;
  • generic skills; and
  • positive values and attitudes.
Subject Objectives

Pupils can enjoy participating in meaningful English learning activities. They can also be motivated to speak, read, write and listen to English. They can even develop dictionary and information skills. Moreover, they can communicate effectively by using suitable grammar structures develop confidence in free expression, imagination and creativity.

Highlights of the curriculum

After adapting our textbook according to the needs of our pupils, we have also enriched our curriculum with different reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks through various activities like singing songs, dramatization, storytelling, pair work, group discussion, role-play, using flash cards and electronic books, games and any English activities on the Internet.

Our English teachers are dedicated to provide quality teaching through:

  • Co-planning the lessons weekly to cater for pupils’ needs
  • Implementing lesson observations to evaluate teaching effectiveness
  • Promoting ‘One Person One Book’ Scheme to stimulate pupils’ learning interest and develop their independent learning ability

Our school has held English interclass competitions to let pupils enjoy the fun in English. These competitions were carried out in English lessons. Pupils who submitted their works in the fastest speed and with the highest number of correct answers win the competitions.

 

This year our school joined the 3rd Classroom Vocabulary Competition. We selected nine students from P.1 to P.6 to represent the school. They participated in the semi-final competition on 4th March. Six of them (P.2A Lee Man Sau, Wong Wang Lik, P.2B Cheng Tsz Hei, P.4B Fong Hau Man, Zhou Tsz Shing, Chan Hong Laam) entered the Territory-wide Championship which was held in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The P.2 students won the first runner-up in the Territory-wide Championship whereas the P.4 students won the Champion in the Territory-wide Championship and directly entered the District Championship. Finally they got the 3rd runner-up in the District Championship. We would like to congratulate all of them andwish them all enjoy the competition and will continue to learn English in a fun and joyful way.
